Digestion < Happiness

Happiness is a word that has become very distinctive in the world of health and fitness. It is often used alongside other emotive words such as power, strength, will and my favourite love.

It is easy to separate the desire of living a light filled heart with reality. Each day we work like drones, fighting, struggling through what we have been lead to believe living. We suffer through poor health, illnesses, break down of relationships and tumultuous work places. Our ever longing for tomorrow has become the norm, focusing on how to get through each day (preparing for what we hope to be a miracle) instead of really living in the moment.

Our bodies are such a powerful machine, which often scream volumes when trying to tell each of us to slow down or to choose a different path. Many of my clients experience constant bloating, digestive issues, broken skin, weak muscles and complete deprivation of sleep and its cycles. Yet, they keep going with what they have taught themselves is the right way to approach life, idly waiting for a better future.

Today IS the day, the day to change.

Having had the privilege to work with hundreds of souls and their quest to embark on a healthier life, I am often left saddened by their complete disregard toward what is they need to do in order to seek those changes. When we take recognition of our ailments it then becomes our personal responsibility to start action. It is not enough to simply ignore it.

The common denominator between most is, despite riddled with inflammation, poor gut health or little to no strength, they also display an unhappiness so harrowing that, at times, empathy has gotten the better of me spreading tears down my cheeks and crickets in my trembling voice.

Today is YOUR day, the day to change.

Ask yourself: Through all my issues internally, can I truly look back at myself and say I am happy?

If the answer even flickers past no, my suggestion is to start working on both. It is brave to take that first step into your journey of health, it is heroic to recognise your thoughts of yourself are whats leading to most of these issues. Our gut is the brain of the body. It will replicate all of our thoughts, prayers and self-talk. One can not function optimally without the other holding its hand through the process.

The saying ‘You are what you eat’ could not be truer. Every mineral, vitamin and nutrient we digest and assimilate aids toward bettering your mood and cognitive brain function. If our gut flora is damaged, our ability to digest food correctly is minimal thus leading to lack of vital nutrients getting to where they are suppose to within our blood stream and organs.

Where to begin?

There are some very simple, easy solutions to add to your daily routine that can help assist with retuning your gut health as well as mental health.

  • Chlorophyll – Add this super green to your water bottle through out the day. It helps our body to assimilate nutrients and vitamins, whilst repairing our gut.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – It may take a bit of a pinch to the nose to begin, but by taking a shot prior to each meal we are placing our gut in prime position to digest and break down foods properly. It also assists with blocked bowels.
  • Milk Thistle – this natural herb is wonderful when settling our stomachs during spouts of anxiety.
  • Green Tea – A powerful detoxifier. The more toxic we are, the harder it is to seize inflammation. Ditch the coffee and sugary drinks for this delicious tea.
  • Fish oil – Omega-3 = BRAIN FOOD. Take 2-4 each day.
  • Magnesium – Helps assist with sleep, cramps, fluid retention and blocked bowels. You can take capsules in the evening or you can also buy Mag Oil, which is brilliant post training when applied to areas of inflammation.
  • Read your labels – Always know where your food has come from and what is in it. I like to live by the idea ‘Just eat REAL food’

Give your self permission to take the first steps towards helping heal both your body and your mind, and I have no doubt that your soul will follow.
